Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute position requiring previous neuro, travel, and level 1 trauma experience and an active IL RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute care Neuro Med-Surg unit
• Unit has 54 beds, including 2 semi-private rooms
• Common patient cases include stroke, spine surgery, seizures, brain tumors, head injuries, and neuroscience patients with some medical overflow
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 on day shift and 1:5-6 on nights
• RNs are required to titrate drips, including Heparin gtt based on PTT
• Utilizes Epic EMR and Phillips telemetry monitors
• Work schedule is three 12-hour night shifts (1900-0700), with every other weekend and holiday rotation
• Floating is required in rotation with staff and may include general unit assignments
• RNs work collaboratively with charge nurse and house supervisor support available 24/7
• Nurse aides and patient care techs are available on all shifts to support nursing staff
• No call or standby requirements
• Unit-specific orientation provided, including 2 days with an educator and preceptor
• No specific scrub color required, but tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings allowed
• First time travelers are not eligible for this position
• Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a local rate
• Holiday shifts are required every other holiday

Requirements

• Active IL RN license at time of consideration
• Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required and must be active
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Level 1 trauma experience required
• Experience working in a dedicated neuro unit required
• Proficiency with Heparin titration
• COVID-19 vaccination is not required for this position
• Must pass a drug screen per facility requirements
