The Student Nurse Intern position offers nursing students an opportunity to gain hands-on patient care experience under the supervision of a registered nurse during a summer internship. Interns perform basic nursing skills, assist patients with daily living activities, and develop clinical competencies while documenting and communicating patient information. The role supports professional growth and teamwork within a healthcare system that values education and career development.
Overview
Summer Nurse Internship will run from May 18, 2026 through July 18, 2026. Eligible Nursing Students are those graduating in December 2026, May 2027, and August 2027.

2- 12hr shifts as a Health Care Technician then 1 -12hr shift following an RN per week
Intern provides an opportunity for nursing students to advance their knowledge and skills in providing patient care. Interns are partnered with an RN who develops and supervises the Student Nurse Intern's experience while retaining full accountability and responsibility for the care of assigned patients. Performs basic nursing skills appropriate for the age and/or development of the patients served. In addition to performing normal duties of a Nursing Assistant, must demonstrate competency in technical nursing skills generally learned/acquired before beginning the last year of a nursing program; job duties will expand as skills are learned and competencies are documented by RN partner. The following are general characteristics of this job, although duties may vary by the shift, unit, or facility assigned.
Qualifications
Certifications: BLS, Education: H.S. Diploma/GED, proof of Nursing college courses
Responsibilities
• Patient Plan of Care: With RN direction and supervision, performs patient care activities based on age, need and expectations of the patient.* Performs various nursing skills according to established standards based on patient's plan of care and intern's ability/learning needs* Assists patients with activities of daily living * Assists with monitoring patient condition and response to medications, treatments, and therapies; takes relevant actions if any concern/question.
• Professional Growth: Utilizes the Student Nurse Intern learning experience to enhance and/or develop the knowledge, competence in technical, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills, and the behaviors that are essential to the role of the Registered Nurse.
• Teamwork: Provides support to other patient care team members by assisting with patient care, associated tasks, and clerical functions.
• Communication: Uses various tools and techniques to communicate patient care information and enhance interpersonal skills with patients, families, and healthcare team members.* Documents in the medical record consistent with guidelines and facility standards*Communicates pertinent clinical data and relevant changes in patient status to RN or other appropriate healthcare team members.

The compensation range for this position is $17.89per hour - $17.89per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
