• System Safety is responsible for ensuring our products are safe for the customer to use in any environment that they are needed.

• We work from the start of a program through its full life cycle.

• Our input in the design phase are critical to ensuring the end user is safe while using our product.

What You Will Do:

• This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Principal System Safety Engineer to join us on the Air and Space team in Aurora Colorado.

• As a Principal System Safety Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

• Analysis of engineering hardware, mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics assessing for fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety requirements compliance.

• Work with system test and tactical operation and maintenance procedures to ensure the proper administrative system safety controls are in place.

• Work across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls.

• Collaborating with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal backgrounds

• Performing System Safety Program or Design analyses

• Working with a large system safety program or multiple mid-sized safety programs, including:

• Monitoring program technical execution,

• Interfacing with stakeholders (e.g. customers, program offices, subcontractors, vendors)

• Preparing Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for Customer Approval

• Briefing safety of the program at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process

• Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards

• Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program

• Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design

• This position is posted as ONSITE and can be based at Raytheon’s Dulles Virgina location.

Qualifications You Must Have:

• Typically Requires: Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of relevant Systems Engineering or Safety Engineering experience. An advanced degree may account for additional years of experience as required for this position.

• Experience with: System Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent Safety Engineering.

• Active U.S. government issued TS/SCI security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Qualifications We Prefer:

• Experience with DoD System Safety Programs e.g. MIL-STD-882

• Experience with system and software safety implementation in Agile Development environment

• Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and Proposal Development

• Master’s degree in science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
