Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Room Psych RN for night shifts, requiring both ER and psychiatric nursing background with strong assessment skills.
Responsibilities
- Position located in the Emergency Department with a psychiatric focus
- Care for high-risk psychiatric patients in the ED
- Work 12-hour night shifts from 1900 to 0700, three times per week
- No floating or on-call requirements
- May occasionally be asked to work 1-2 weekends per month
- Holiday coverage required based on unit needs
- Provide direct care to two high-risk psychiatric patients at a time, including medication administration, restraint use, de-escalation, and coordinating placement
- Perform psychiatric evaluations for all psych patients entering the ED and coordinate necessary placement or interventions
- Respond to Behavioral Response Team calls across the hospital, supporting bedside staff alongside police and nurse managers
- Position is highly independent and requires strong psychiatric nursing skills for assessment and disposition planning
- Facility is nicotine free
- New graduates are not eligible for this position
Requirements
- Active KS or Compact RN license required
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Minimum 1 year of ER experience and 1 year of psychiatric nursing experience in a hospital setting preferred
- Experience with psychiatric patient assessments and determining appropriate dispositions is required
- Proven ability to manage violent or escalated psychiatric patients
