This role is for a Board-Certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon to provide locum coverage at a Level II Trauma hospital, performing high volumes of cardiac surgeries including CABG, valve repair/replacement, and TAVR procedures. The position involves weekday OR coverage with a 1:3 call rotation including overnight and weekend shifts, supporting an advanced open-heart and vascular surgery program. The surgeon will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, ensure quality perioperative care, maintain documentation, and support program development initiatives.
One of our Partners, is seeking a Board-Certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon to provide ongoing locum coverage at its Level II Trauma facility in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. The hospital maintains an active open-heart and vascular program, performing a high volume of CABG and valve procedures with exposure to TAVR, thoracoscopic, and structural heart interventions.
The assignment features weekday OR coverage (7:00 AM - 5:00 PM) and a 1:3 call rotation including overnight and 24-hour weekend coverage. Emergency temporary privileges are available for qualified surgeons with clean records.

Licensure: MN license or IMLC required (Emergency Temps available)
Job ResponsibilitiesPerform comprehensive adult cardiothoracic and vascular procedures, including CABG, valve repair/replacement, and aortic surgery
Provide 24-hour emergency surgical coverage per rotation schedule
Supervise and collaborate with OR, ICU, and perfusion teams to ensure high-quality perioperative care
Participate in TAVR and structural heart cases as first assist or standby surgeon
Maintain operative reports and documentation in Epic EMR in a timely manner
Support program development initiatives in quality and protocol optimization
Board Certification: Cardiothoracic Surgery (ABTS)
Licensure: MN license or IMLC required
Experience: Minimum 5 years post-fellowship preferred
Certifications: BLS & ACLS (AHA required)
Preferred: Experience in Level II Trauma or high-acuity cardiac centers
Soft Skills: Composed under pressure, decisive in critical situations, and collaborative across disciplines
