Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Stepdown and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit position requiring neuro expertise and flexibility for day shifts in West Virginia.
Responsibilities
- Work in a combined Neuro Stepdown and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) within an acute care setting
- Unit has 31 beds, with 25 for stepdown and 6 for EMU
- Patient population includes high acuity neuroscience cases such as strokes, seizures, craniotomies, and post-TPA management
- Nurse to patient ratios are 1:3 for stepdown and 1:5-6 for floor/EMU
- Shifts are 12-hour day shifts from 7:00 am to 7:30 pm, with weekend requirements
- Possible floating to other neuro-related units within the hospital may be required
- EPIC is used as the EMR and prior experience is required
- Royal blue scrubs are required
- RN will deliver care for high acuity neuroscience and epilepsy patients, including monitoring and titrating medications per protocols
- Charge nurse and nurse aides available on every shift for support
- Orientation on unit consists of two shifts
- Holiday coverage is required as part of rotating schedule
- Travelers may be required to float to other neuro units as needed
- Recent permanent employees or travelers to WVU Medicine must have a two-year gap before being eligible for consideration
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience, with strong neuro experience
- BLS is required; NIHSS preferred
- Experience with titration of drips such as amiodarone, cardizem, nitro, dopamine, nipride, ketamine, lasix, bumex, and insulin is preferred
- Experience with EVDs preferred
- Experience with EPIC charting is required
- COVID vaccination is required unless an exemption is approved
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
