Job SummaryUnder limited supervision, the Nurse Educator – Oncology designs, develops, implements, and evaluates education programs for the oncology clinical service line using adult learning principles. This role adheres to the ANA Nursing Professional Development Scope and Standards and applies organizational policies and procedures. The Nurse Educator provides service line education support, staff supervision as appropriate, and contributes to hospital-wide education initiatives in addition to oncology-specific programs.
Key ResponsibilitiesEducational Program Development & EvaluationDesign, develop, implement, and evaluate educational activities based on staff, unit, divisional, and organizational needs
Conduct learning needs assessments using multiple strategies and involve learners in outcome identification
Apply ANCC accreditation criteria and LifeBridge Health continuing education providership processes
Incorporate technology and diverse educational modalities into teaching strategies
Evaluate educational outcomes, adjust content as needed, and communicate return on investment to stakeholders
Maintain alignment with organizational educational and strategic priorities
Maintain clinical and educational competencies appropriate to the role
Promote lifelong learning and serve as a role model for professional growth
Serve as preceptor, mentor, and resource to students, staff, and clinical partners
Participate in hiring and termination decisions as appropriate
Monitor nursing practice in compliance with regulatory and professional standards
Serve as a change agent to improve organizational metrics, clinical effectiveness, and patient satisfaction
Collaborate with leadership and interdisciplinary teams to identify improvement opportunities
Support implementation and evaluation of practice changes and educational interventions
Create an environment that supports staff through change processes
Partner with nursing leadership to guide clinical practice within the oncology service line
Coordinate nursing orientation activities and support orientee/preceptor relationships
Collaborate on the development and revision of nursing policies, protocols, and procedures using evidence-based practice
Coach staff to strengthen clinical skills, critical thinking, decision-making, and systems thinking
Deliver formal and informal educational programs to improve patient outcomes and quality of care
Organize and facilitate education-related projects at the department and system level
Define project scope, develop work plans, manage timelines, and monitor outcomes
Understand and evaluate the financial impact of educational initiatives
Participate in strategic planning for the education department
Utilize data and evidence to inform educational programs and decision-making
Support integration of research into clinical practice
Participate in or support nursing and interdisciplinary research initiatives
Required:
Registered Nurse (RN) with current Maryland license or eligibility to obtain
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Masters Degree in Nursing required.
3–5 years of nursing experience
Preferred:
Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®) certification
OCN® certification required or willingness to sit for the exam upon hire
