American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Acute Epilepsy Monitoring unit night shift with Level 1 trauma and telemetry experience required.
Responsibilities- Work in the Neuro Acute Epilepsy Monitoring unit within an acute hospital setting
- 48-bed unit, including 10 epilepsy specialty rooms
- Patient population includes epilepsy, post-neurosurgical cases, 24-48 hour Trend EEGs, brain tumors, subdural hematomas, scoliosis surgeries, traumatic brain injuries, and other neurological diagnoses
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4 for both days and nights
- 12-hour night shifts (7pm-7am), with three weekend shifts required in a four-week period
- Holiday shifts are assigned according to the unit’s rotation
- Possible floating to Med/Surg and Telemetry floors may be required
- Uses Cerner EMR system
- Ventilators (BiPAP) managed by Respiratory Therapy
- Hospitalist or intensivist present during days; SWAT RN available for difficult IV starts; RT and Pharmacy services available 24/7
- Floor-specific orientation includes two shifts
- Care for a high-acuity neuro patient population in a Level 1 trauma environment
- Support from charge RN (no assignment), resource RN, and patient care technicians
- Required to maintain strong sterile technique during frequent clinical procedures
- Team-oriented environment with self-scheduling option
- Scrub color requirement is Greys Anatomy/steel
- Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing, and all staff must have natural hair color and no facial piercings
- Mandatory orientation includes pass/fail skill simulations on Day 1
- Must be able to detect subtle patient changes and demonstrate sharp assessment skills
- Reassignment is possible if both Relias and SIMs Lab assessments are not passed
- Active AZ or compact RN license required upon start
- Minimum two years of recent acute hospital RN experience, including Level 1 trauma and telemetry experience
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Must pass a dysrhythmia (Relias) exam prior to acceptance, with two attempts allowed
- Must pass Day 1 SIMs Lab skills assessment for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing change; pass/fail format applies
- Strong critical thinking and neurological assessment skills required
- Must provide a valid driver’s license as proof of permanent address to verify 50-mile radius eligibility
- Two professional references required: one from a supervisor in the past 12 months and one from a supervisor or peer in the past three years
- Candidates may not have been employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities within the past year
