Summerville Medical Center is a 124-bed hospital that provides acute care and comprehensive health services to the Lowcountry community. The hospital is home to a level II nursery for ill or premature newborns, a maternal-fetal telemedicine program for high-risk pregnancies, and home-like labor, delivery and recovery rooms. Together with other facilities in its system, the hospital delivers more babies than any other hospital in the area. This is a 2.0 coverage program so two OBHG Physicians are on site 24/7.
Summerville is in Dorchester County but parts of the city are also located in Charleston and Berkeley counties. It is home to more than 50,000 residents and is conveniently located just minutes from Charleston. Summerville claims the title The Birthplace of Sweet Tea and known as The Flower Town in the Pines. Summerville has an abundance of public and private gardens and is especially beautiful in the spring when the azaleas bloom.
