- # Beds/Trauma Bays: 3 ER ROOM, 2 TRAUMA BAYS.
MS is down the hallway.
25 beds.
- Do you have a Fast Track: No.
- Do you have a separate Triage area?: No.
- Do you have a separate holding area in the ER or are ER holds intermixed w/in the ER?: No, Intermixed.
- Do you have separate Psych/seclusion rooms?: No.
- Is Security in-house 24/7? Housed in the ER?: No.
- On average, how many patients do you treat per day?: ER: 5, MS: if full at 12, would take 6 patients each.
- Nurse: Patient Ratios: 1-3:4 when ER is not busy will be taking a MS assignment as ER patients come and go, will jump into ER to manage those patients, then back to MS.
Nights: 1 RN can be paired with another RN or LPN and 1 paramedic- RN to fill in as charge if no perm RN staffed.
- Common diagnoses/Types of patients: ER: PNA, CELLULITIS, DEHYDRATION, UTI, ABD, CHEST PAIN, STOKE.
MS patients: acute on chronic conditions, rare OR patients:
PNA, CELLULITIS, SWING BED, DEHYDRATED, HYPOTENSTION, COPD, DIVERTICULITIS, AKI, HYPOMAGNESEMIA, DSYPNEA, PE, some outpatient ortho.
- Experience or 'Must have' skills: Good ER skills, time management, Organized, leader, comfortable floating between ER & MS, want 2 years of ER experience, highly prefer first time travelers.
- Common drips?: ER: heparin, cardezem, nitro, norepi, (may mix a couple of critical care medications, and resource sheet with how to mix).
MS: norepi, heprin, nitro, protonix.
- ED Physician/Mid-Levels: Mostly NP'S, occasional md and one PA.
- Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment?: YES.
- Nurse aids/EMT/Paramedics/Patient Sitters?: 1 CNA each 12 hr shift, 1 Paramedic that works nights, 1 LPN that works nights.
- Is RT in the ER 24/7? Do they do ABG's, breathing Tx, & EKG's?: NO, they have to do all their own breathing treatments and EKG'S.
- RT Equipment (Vents, Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, etc.) Are RNs required to do anything with these besides trouble shoot?: Vent (hamilton) cpap and bipap machine set up and run.
There is a cheat sheet for the cpap and bipap machines.
Tele Health to assist with critical care patients, providers to assist, and EMS good about staying to bag/ CPR/ intubated patients.
- Do you have Monitor Techs in the ER? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the Tele monitors?: No, they are required to read their own strips, EKG is GE and vital machine is Mindray.
- X-Ray or CT in the ER? Transport?: Lab, x-ray are on call, no transport.
- Does Phlebotomy draw labs or RN's draw?: Nurse can draw if they feel comfortable doing so, other wise lab draws.
- Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?): 12 hr shifts 7-7 report room for all patients and potential for Block Scheduling for nights, self-scheduling- manager to work with travelers to balance shifts, staff willing to do trades.
- Weekend Requirements: Try to do every other weekend.
- Holiday Requirements: Try to do every other holiday.
- Is there call or a standby requirement?: No not for night shift
- Call would be?: 30 minute response time.
- Floating Requirements: Yes, nurses work all areas Med Surg, ER, Pediatrics, Swing Bed.
- Scrub Color/Dress Code: Any color, clean & professional.
