Med/Surg RN Job Details – Springfield, IL

• Location: Springfield, IL 62781 (Central Illinois healthcare jobs)
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $2000–$2050
• Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated
• Unit: 4G Surgical, 23-bed unit
• Assignment Duration: 13 weeks (Start: 12/8/2025 – End: 3/9/2026)
• Shift: Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts/week (18:45 – 07:15)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Guaranteed Hours: Up to 36 hours may be called off per 13-week contract
• Scrub Color: Any solid color
• Parking: Free with permit

Med/Surg Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license (or in application process)
• Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg RN experience
• BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Proficient in PICC line management and IV starts
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Cerner electronic charting experience preferred
• Ability to float within scope to other units or affiliate hospitals
• Must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays during assignment
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)

Med/Surg RN Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with neurological and surgical conditions (stroke, TIA, subdural hematoma, seizures, post-surgical recovery)
• Manage and care for PICC lines and peripheral IVs
• Administer medications including Levetiracetam, lorazepam, aspirin, Lovenox, heparin, antihypertensives, Plavix, atorvastatin, and Eliquis
• Assist with procedures such as EEG and lumbar puncture
• Document patient care using Cerner electronic medical records
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams for comprehensive patient care
• Float to other units or affiliate hospitals as needed to support patient care
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies and procedures
