Job DescriptionThe Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical skills, and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families. The ED RN assesses patient needs, identifies urgent or emergent care priorities, and collaborates in providing direct care, applying interventions, and evaluating patient progress.
Responsibilities- Conduct primary assessments of critical needs, detect and document deviations from normal for all age groups.
- Connect with patients and families during triage, establishing rapport and addressing comfort needs.
- Reassess patients to identify responses to treatment and document significant changes in condition.
- Prepare patients and families for diagnostic procedures and treatments.
- Continuously update patients on their care process and anticipated needs for support.
- Utilize relationship-based care principles to provide a healing environment and alleviate anxiety.
- Teach patients and their families about post-emergency care and discharge instructions.
- Minimum two years of acute hospital experience as a Registered Nurse.
- At least one year of experience in an Emergency Department environment.
- Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Stroke Certification (AHA or RQI).
