An Orthopedic Technician applies and removes orthopedic devices such as casts and splints while providing wound and skin care. They also offer basic patient education and support healthcare facility policies and protocols. This role typically requires certification and experience in clinical settings such as clinics or ambulatory care facilities.
POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Applies and removes casts, splints, and other orthopedic devices. Performs wound and skin care and provides basic instructions to the patients/significant others. Supports and maintains the University Health's policies, protocols, values, and guest relations.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED is required. Graduate of an accredited trade school with a diploma as an Orthopedic Technician or Medical Assistant diploma from an accredited school or certification from an approved credentialing body for Medical Assistants with a minimum of six month experience as an Orthopedic Technician in a similar setting. One-year experience in a clinic, doctor's office or ambulatory care setting is preferred.
LICENSURE
Must have a current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider or AHA BLS Instructor Provider card.
