Our job summary

The Maintenance Mechanic at Smurfit Westrock is responsible for inspecting, testing, repairing, installing, and maintaining industrial equipment in a paper and packaging manufacturing facility. The role demands mechanical troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and participation in shutdown activities to optimize equipment performance and minimize downtime. Candidates should have a high school diploma, relevant mechanical or trade training, and at least five years of industrial experience.

Pay Range:

MT: $37.68/hour

MT1: $41.82/hour

MT2: $44.78/hour

MT3: $47.79/hour

The opportunity:

We are seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician located in Solvay, NY. This Maintenance Technician position inspects, tests, repairs, installs, and maintains industrial equipment and the facility in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer’s specifications. This facility is operated as a team concept mill and all individuals are given the opportunity to work to their full potential. This job description does not in any way limit the responsibilities of the Mechanical Maintenance Technician position.

Fifty pounds lifting capability; normal hearing/vision with correction; ability to climb stairs and catwalks
Minimum: high school diploma; journey level; or trade school and equivalent experience (5 years industrial experience)

What you need to succeed:

High School Diploma / GED is required
Journeyman Certificate, and/or vocational/technical training preferred.
Effective first response to unplanned mill shut down situations
Equipment/process optimization
Planning and executing shutdown activities
Supports continuous improvement of preventive maintenance
Participates in trouble-shooting efforts to respond to equipment failures and/or process deficiencies
Participates in root cause analysis and execution of corrective actions to minimize recurrence of unplanned shutdowns
Responsible for vendor contact as requested
Will work with Planners to identify procurement needs
Member of rotation pool to support Shift Teams
Minimum 44 hours per week with extended hours to meet mill needs including call-ins

The starting rate is $37.68 - $41.82 per hour, depending on your role, level, and location. The benefits for this role may include short-term bonus incentive, health, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and paid sick leave as required by applicable state/local law, 10 days of paid vacation, and 11 days of paid holidays, subject to annual change.
