(Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Physicians will provide high-quality emergency medical care to Veterans presenting with acute illnesses, injuries, and urgent medical needs within a fast-paced Emergency Department setting.The selected candidate will deliver compassionate, efficient, and clinically sound care while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.Key Responsibilities: Provide immediate evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for patients presenting to the Emergency Department. Perform rapid assessments and stabilization of patients with life-threatening conditions. Order and interpret diagnostic tests including labs, imaging, and EKGs. Formulate and implement treatment plans for a wide range of emergent medical and trauma conditions. Perform emergency procedures as clinically indicated (e.g., airway management, central lines, resuscitation, wound care). Coordinate patient care with specialists, hospitalists, nurses, and ancillary staff. Ensure timely documentation in accordance with VA policies and medical standards. Participate in care coordination, handoffs, and multidisciplinary case discussions. Respond to in-department emergencies and provide leadership during critical events. Maintain compliance with safety protocols, infection control standards, and regulatory requirements. Provide patient-centered, culturally sensitive, and respectful care to Veteran populations.Work Schedule and Shift Coverage:The Emergency Department operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including Federal Holidays (Central Standard Time).Current Shifts (Subject to Change by VA Management):Monday Friday: 6:00 a.m. 6:30 p.m. 12:00 p.m. 10:00 p.m. 8:00 a.m. 6:30 p.m. 8:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m. 6:00 p.m. 12:00 a.m. 7:00 p.m. 7:00 a.m.Saturday & Sunday: 6:00 a.m. 6:30 p.m. 9:00 a.m. 7:00 p.m. 10:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m. 3:00 p.m. 11:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. 7:00 a.m.Physicians must be on-site and available to see patients promptly in accordance with VA care standards.Qualifications: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.). Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine (required). Active, unrestricted medical license to practice in any U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth. Demonstrated experience in a high-acuity Emergency Department setting. Skilled in emergency procedures and rapid patient assessment. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication, interpersonal, and critical-thinking skills. Familiarity with VA policies and federal healthcare regulations is preferred but not required.
