American Traveler is seeking an experienced PICU RN with a SC or compact license, BLS and PALS (AHA), and at least 2 years of PICU experience for a night shift contract.
Responsibilities- Position is in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) within a hospital setting
- 28-bed unit providing intensive and intermediate care for patients ages 0-18 with both medical and surgical diagnoses
- Cares for patients with respiratory compromise, trauma, post-operative needs, neurology/neurosurgery, and requiring ventilatory or cardiac support
- Utilizes advanced therapies including ECMO, CRRT, and both renal and peritoneal dialysis
- Nurses work 3x12 hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM) with a requirement of up to 5 weekend shifts per schedule
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are variable: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 depending on ICU or stepdown acuity
- Uses EPIC for charting
- Floating required within scope to meet unit needs
- Holiday shifts required if contract covers holiday periods
- Provide high-acuity care to pediatric ICU and stepdown population, including patients post-trauma and major surgery
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including patient care techs, unit secretaries, respiratory therapists, pediatric dietitians, and pharmacists
- First-time travelers are welcome for this position
- Pre-hire online training (modules) must be completed before starting
- All time off (RTO) must be requested at submission; extended or holiday RTO may impact offer
- During hurricane season (June-November), all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams
- Scrub color requirements will be communicated prior to start
- Local candidates within 60 miles may be considered
- Active SC or compact RN license
- Minimum 2 years of recent PICU experience
- Current BLS and PALS certifications from the American Heart Association
- Experience with ECMO and CRRT preferred
- Ability to obtain South Carolina RN license prior to start if necessary
- SSN and driver’s license required for consideration
- No previous permanent or PRN employment with the specified health system within the past year
