The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing general ledger activities, preparing financial statements, and supporting fund and corporate accounting in compliance with GAAP and investment reporting standards. This role involves reconciling investment transactions, collaborating with auditors and tax advisors, and providing financial analysis to support decision-making within private equity, real estate, or asset management firms. The position requires strong analytical skills, accounting expertise, and experience with financial systems and process improvements.
We are partnering with an investment firm seeking a Senior Accountant. This position plays a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting fund and corporate accounting, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and investment reporting standards. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, an eye for detail, and experience within private equity, real estate, or asset management environments.
Sr Accountant Responsibilities
- Manage the general ledger, journal entries, and account reconciliations for multiple entities, including investment partnerships and management companies.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and internal reporting requirements.
- Support fund accounting activities, including capital calls, distributions, and performance allocation (waterfall) calculations.
- Reconcile investment transactions, valuations, and cash movements across custodians and fund administrators.
- Partner with external auditors, tax advisors, and fund administrators to ensure timely audits and tax filings.
- Monitor and forecast cash flow, intercompany transactions, and investment performance metrics to support executive decision-making.
- Maintain and improve internal controls, compliance documentation, and accounting policies to ensure accuracy and transparency.
- Assist in the implementation of new accounting software, automation tools, or reporting enhancements to streamline financial operations.
- Provide financial analysis and commentary to senior management on portfolio performance, budget variances, and key operational KPIs.
- Support special projects such as M&A due diligence, fund launches, and valuation reviews.
Sr Accountant Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CPA-eligible preferred.
- 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within an investment firm, private equity, hedge fund, or real estate finance environment.
- Deep understanding of GAAP, fund accounting principles, and investment entity structures.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with financial systems
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally and deliver accurate financial results under deadlines.
- Strong communication and analytical skills, with a focus on process improvement and return on investment.
- Series 99 License is highly preferred.
