Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery role in a Family Birthing Center, requiring a CA RN license and strong delivery experience.

Responsibilities

• Work in a Family Birthing Center with L&D and Mother/Baby antepartum and postpartum care
• Acute care hospital setting with Level 2 trauma designation
• Shift is 12-hour days with every other weekend required
• Floating may occur to other Sacramento facilities, with first-float priority for travelers
• Patient ratios are 1:2 for L&D, 1:1 for delivery, and 1:4 for Mother-Baby couplets
• Care for term, preterm, and some high-risk obstetric patients, as well as antepartum cases
• Unit utilizes Cerner EMR
• Scrubs are provided
• RNs participate in all aspects of obstetric care, including delivery, postpartum, and neonatal support
• In C-section cases, two RNs are sent to the OR—one for the mother and one for the baby; both circulate
• Charge nurse is present for support and typically does not take a patient assignment
• On-call assignments, if any, require a 30-minute response time
• Rotation for holidays is shared with core staff
• Travelers are required to float to other units as needed, though mid-shift floats to other facilities are uncommon
• Block scheduling is not typically available; self-scheduling is used but must be approved by the manager
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this role
• This hospital is designated 'baby friendly' and provides comprehensive breastfeeding support
• Orientation includes 1-2 days on the floor with a preceptor

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• Minimum of 2 years recent L&D experience required
• BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Advanced Fetal Monitoring certifications required
• STABLE certification preferred
• Previous experience in 'catching baby' and working the NRP role highly preferred
• Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
• Two professional references: one supervisor reference from the last 12 months and a second from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years
• Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer
• Must successfully complete sterile technique testing for Foley catheter and central line dressing changes during orientation
• Candidates may not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
