A Texas-based health plan is seeking an experienced Associate Medical Director (Family Medicine) for a locum-to-permanent opportunity. The role is fully remote during the locum assignment, with an expected transition to a hybrid model once permanent.
This is a leadership-focused position ideal for physicians with strong experience in managed care, utilization management, and Medicaid populations.
Key ResponsibilitiesReview prior authorization and appeals requests for medical necessity
Conduct peer-to-peer discussions as needed
Provide clinical oversight for utilization management, disease management, and quality programs
Participate in development of medical policies, clinical standards, and evidence-based guidelines
Review provider performance, applications, and site/medical record audits
Assist with pharmacy benefit oversight and fraud, waste, and abuse initiatives
Collaborate with state and local agencies related to Medicaid and managed care
Support process improvement, population health initiatives, and interdisciplinary committees
Supervise and support clinical staff as assigned
Board Certified in Family Medicine (required no exceptions)
Active Texas medical license (or willingness to obtain)
Managed care and prior authorization experience (required)
Familiarity with Texas Medicaid regulations (required)
Clean malpractice and license history (highly preferred)
Must be W-2 eligible
Board certification must be current (no lapsed certifications)
Locum assignment is 100% remote
Permanent role requires hybrid on-site presence in Texas
