The role is a 13-week locum tenens Internal Medicine Physician position in Abilene, TX, providing primary care to patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities at a state supported living center. The physician will manage a caseload of about 35 patients, perform daily and on-call duties, including weekend infirmary rounds, primarily using telephonic consultation. Required qualifications include board certification, active Texas medical license, DEA registration, BLS certification, and preference for experience with special needs or state hospital patients.
We are currently working with a client in Abilene, TX currently looking for a physician that would be open to providing primary care for patients suffering from intellectual and developmental disabilities. This would be a 13 week locum tenens opportunity with the option to extend. Please see below for additional information:
- Location: Abilene State Supported Living Center - Abilene, TX.
- Contract length: 13 week assignment with the option to extend.
- Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm - Every 6th weekday on call (5:00pm -8:00am) and on call one weekend/ every 6 weeks. 95% of call is managed by telephone, and rarely requires return to campus. When on call for the weekend/ holiday, provider must come in and perform infirmary rounds (16 bed infirmary for acute and chronic care) and evaluate any acute illness or injuries among residents. The remainder of the time will be by phone.
- Weekly Pay, Paid every Friday up to $4680 a week plus on call.
- Case Load of around 35 patients. Usually will see no more than 10 patients per day for acute illness, injury or follow-up.

- Must have a clean record,
- Must have an active license in the state of TX
- Must be Board Eligible/ Board Certified with respective MD/DO Boards in Family medicine, or Internal Medicine.
- Must have active and unrestricted DEA.
- Must have active BLS.
- Will consider anyone who is interested and qualified, but preference is someone with experience in treating those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, or experience at a State Hospital or SSLC
