This position seeks an experienced Nurse Practitioner to provide locum coverage in a Neurocritical Care ICU at a Level I Trauma hospital in New Orleans, LA. The role involves managing adult neuro ICU patients, performing critical care procedures, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team during full-time night shifts. Candidates must have specialized neurocritical care experience, appropriate licensure, and certifications, with a 13-week contract duration starting February 2026.
We are seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner to provide locum services in a Neurocritical Care ICU setting in New Orleans, LA.
This is an excellent opportunity for an NP with strong neurocritical care experience looking for full-time night coverage starting February 23, 2026.
Job Details:
Specialty: Neurocritical Care Neuro ICU
Setting: Level I Trauma Acute Care Hospital
Schedule:
Full-time, 3 night shifts per week
7:00 PM 7:00 AM (12-hour shifts)
No call required
Contract Length: 13 weeks (potential to extend)
Start Date: February 23, 2026
Responsibilities:
Manage adult neuro ICU patients with primary neurologic diagnoses
Facilitate admissions, treatment, and discharge
Perform critical care procedures (ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, sedation)
Preferred skills: CVC insertion, arterial line insertion, lumbar puncture
Implement SAH, ICH, AIS pathways and document core stroke measures
Collaborate with neurointensivists and multidisciplinary team
Requirements:
Active Louisiana NP license (required)
DEA and Louisiana CSR (required)
Board Certification: Acute Care or Adult/Geriatric NP
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, ENLS
Minimum 2 3 years neurocritical care or ICU experience
Epic EMR experience required
Strong procedural skills and ability to manage high-acuity neurosurgical patients
Credentialing:
Estimated timeframe: 60 days
Completion of facility-specific forms and verifications required
Interview with department leadership
