American Traveler is seeking a Chemo Certified RN for a Med/Surg-Oncology night shift position requiring at least 2 years of recent inpatient experience and ability to administer chemotherapy.
Responsibilities- Work on a Medical Surgical unit with oncology patients in an inpatient hospital setting
- Primary patient population includes general medical-surgical diagnoses with oncology history, requiring chemotherapy/biotherapy administration
- Patient diagnoses include AKI, sepsis, cancer, septic shock, pain, OD, malignant neoplasms, ARF, encephalopathy, failure to thrive, diabetic foot ulcers, and patients on heparin drips
- Target nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6, with possible increases during high census
- Night shift position (3x12 hours, 18:45–07:15), every other weekend required
- Floating required to similar units, including inpatient holding in the ED, and alternate medical patient care locations
- Call required if called off on a prescheduled shift
- Contract staff may be assigned to Storm Team and required to work during disasters or catastrophic events
- Uses Pyxis for medication dispensing and Epic for documentation
- Responsible for administration of chemotherapy and standard MS/Onc RN duties
- Expected to attend monthly staff meetings
- Equal assignment of patients with staff nurses to ensure coverage
- Required to make up any shifts missed due to call outs
- Unit orientation consists of 24 hours (2 shifts)
- Required to wear navy blue and white scrubs
- First time travelers are accepted
- RTO cannot be requested after booking and is not permitted to be arranged on site
- Locals are accepted without a rate difference
- May be required to consolidate to a centralized office or be preassigned to other units as needed
- Active NC or Compact RN license
- ONC Certification and BLS required
- Minimum 2 years of recent inpatient Med/Surg or Oncology RN experience
- Competency in chemotherapy administration (IV, PO, or injection)
- Experience with colostomy care, port access, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, PICC management, heparin, insulin, surgical drains, chest tubes, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, and wound care including wound vac
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Experience using Epic and Pyxis preferred
- Preferred: CPI certification and charge nurse experience
