American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Stepdown unit position specializing in trauma and general surgery with weekend night shifts and a WV or compact RN license requirement.
Responsibilities- Position is in an acute care hospital Stepdown unit with floor and step-down beds
- Unit serves trauma, general surgery, bariatric surgery, and multi-trauma patients
- Unit has 30-33 beds: 12-15 floor, 18 stepdown
- Patient ratios are 1:6 for floor and 1:3 for stepdown
- Common diagnoses include traumatic injuries, TBI, fractures, chest tube cases, bariatric and general surgery
- RNs work with complex wound care, drains, devices, and respiratory support including chest tubes
- Stable and chronic vent management with RT available 24/7
- Weekend night shifts are required (Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday)
- Floating to like units (floor or stepdown) is required
- EPIC EMR is used in this facility
- Royal Blue scrubs required
- High-impact, fast-paced environment with a collaborative interdisciplinary team
- Responsible for managing patients on Heparin, PCA drips (floor) and Insulin, Cardizem drips (stepdown), with no pressors
- RNs validate cardiac monitor readings
- Floor and stepdown environments provide experience with both breadth and depth of patient care
- Holiday coverage will align with permanent staff holiday rotation
- Clinical Associates (nurse aides) provide support on the unit when fully staffed
- Successful completion of required orientation for the specific unit
- Stepdown unit requires passing EKG testing if assigned at certain facilities
- First time travelers will be considered
- No local travelers allowed within a 50-mile radius of the facility
- Active WV or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a relevant setting
- Current BLS certification required
- Experience with complex wound care, drains, chest tubes, respiratory support, traumatic injuries, and spinal cord injury care is required
- Must be able to read cardiac strips
- Drivers license address must be outside 50 miles from facility
- COVID-19 vaccination required unless medical or religious exemption is approved
- Candidates with prior permanent employment at any WVU Medicine location must have a 2-year break before consideration
- Travelers who have worked within the WVU system for one year must have a 2-year break before returning
