American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position in an acute care setting with night shifts and comprehensive perinatal care.
Responsibilities- Work in a critical access hospital L&D unit with 2 labor rooms and use of acute care beds for postpartum care
- Care for low-risk perinatal patients including labor, delivery, postpartum, and neonatal nursing
- Utilizes Cerner Community Works EMR; experience with Cerner is not required but preferred
- 12-hour night shifts with block scheduling and scheduling completed four weeks at a time
- Required to float to the Acute MedSurg floor when there are no OB patients
- Every other weekend work is standard; may be required to cover holiday shifts as needed
- Patient ratios typically 1:1 or 1:2, usually with only one OB nurse per shift
- Fetal Link EFM system used for monitoring
- Responsibilities include comprehensive perinatal care, including labor support, postpartum assessments, and newborn care
- Charge nurse oversees the whole hospital, not just the L&D unit
- Care team includes family practice OBs and anesthesia available on-call
- No dedicated RT in-house; nurses may need to use nasal cannula or non-rebreather for respiratory support
- Department provides one day of unit-specific orientation
- No specific scrub color required as long as attire is clean and professional
- Floating to other departments may be required when OB census is low
- First-time travelers will be considered
- Active WA or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum 1 year recent experience in L&D, postpartum, and neonatal antepartum nursing
- Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NRP, C-EFM (intermediate level or higher preferred)
- Ability to titrate insulin and magnesium drips
- Must be able to work independently without nursing aides or tech support
- Ability to monitor patients on magnesium and operate Fetal Link EFM system
