Position Summary
The AdventHealth Rocky Mountain Regional Hospital Medicine Medical Director provides clinical, operational, and strategic leadership for a program that serves the 5 acute care hospitals in the Denver Metropolitan area. Grounded in the organization s mission of Extending the Healing Ministry of Christ, this vital role partners with hospital campus leadership, the medical group, and the regional Chief Medical Officer to ensure exceptional whole-person care, clinical excellence, and advances a culture of compassion, accountability, and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Leadership & Quality
- Champions the delivery of evidence-based, whole-person care that meets AdventHealth s high standards for quality, safety, and experience.
- Partners with campus and medical group quality and patient safety teams and committees to develop and implement patient care processes and pathways that lend to sustained top decile performance.
- In collaboration with practice-based Lead Hospitalists and the utilization of data and dashboards, leads and manages the program s performance and outcome improvement efforts.
- Partners with Clinical Documentation Integrity and Revenue Cycle departments to optimize clinical documentation that accurately reflects patient acuity and supports value-based care performance.
- Operational Management & Performance
- Provides leadership for staffing models, scheduling, and regional workforce optimization.
- Partners with nursing, care management, and hospital operations to improve patient flow, discharge efficiency, and transition-of-care management processes.
- Supports HER (Epic) optimization and stewardship of resources in alignment with regional efficiency goals.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and system standards.
- Physician Engagement & Culture

- Leads regular communication forums, rounding, and feedback loops with regional hospitalists.
- Addresses behavior or performance concerns balancing candor, empathy, and mission alignment.
- Collaborates with human resource partners on coaching, expectations, and professional accountability processes.
- Workforce Development & Recruitment
- Participates in recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies to support a stable, mission-aligned hospitalist workforce.
- Develops and mentors current and emerging leaders across the program.
- Promotes succession planning and engagement initiatives that strengthens team cohesion.
- Strategic Planning & System Alignment
- Partners with regional and system leaders to advance initiatives in hospital medicine, inclusive of CDI/documentation improvement, population health, and value-based/outcome-driven care.
- Serves as a key liaison between campus-level hospitalist teams and regional/system leadership for communication and change management.
- Represents the Rocky Mountain Region in system committees and collaborative workgroups as assigned.
- Collaboration & Relationship Management
- Builds strong, trust-based relationships with hospital executives, nursing leaders, ED leadership, care management, and hospital-based service lines.
- Promotes collaboration across campuses to ensure standardization as appropriate and reduce unwarranted variation.
- Supports conflict resolution and interdepartmental alignment with professionalism and emotional intelligence.
Qualifications
- MD/DO with board certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
- Minimum of 3 5 years of hospitalist practice; leadership experience preferred.
- Gains and maintains an unrestricted Colorado medical licensure.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams through influence, data transparency, and relationship-building.

- Collaborates with: Hospital Medicine Administrative Leadership, Campus Chief Medical Officers, CNOs, COOs, Quality leaders, CDI team, Behavioral Health, Case Management, and other clinical service lines.
- Oversight of: Lead Hospitalists, depending on regional structure.
Position Expectations
- Includes a blend of clinical duties and administrative leadership (customizable to regional needs).
- Participation in regional leadership councils, operational reviews, and system initiatives.
- Travel required across Rocky Mountain Region campuses.
