The AR Specialist manages the credit granting process including credit policy application, periodic reviews, and assessment of customer creditworthiness to optimize sales and minimize bad debt. Responsibilities include posting customer payments, resolving discrepancies, managing relationships with collection and credit reporting agencies, and recommending credit policy changes. The role requires strong accounting and finance knowledge, leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments in a building materials distribution company.
Position Summary
The primary function of the Credit Manager position is being accountable for the entire credit granting process, including the consistent application of a credit policy, periodic credit reviews of existing customers, and the assessment of the creditworthiness of potential customers, with the goal of optimizing the mix of company sales and bad debt losses.
Duties & Responsibilities
Post customer payments by recording cash, checks, and credit card transactions daily
While posting payments, check for invoicing and payment errors
Work closely with management and the sales team to resolve discrepancies
Measure department performance using appropriate metrics
Manage relationships with collection agencies
Manage relationships with credit reporting agencies
Manage relationships with the sales department
Recommend changes in the credit policy to senior management when necessary
Create a credit scoring model
Manage customer credit files
Monitor the credit granting and updating process
Accept or reject staff credit recommendations
Investigate the largest customer credit applications
Visit the largest customers to establish relationships
Monitor periodic credit reviews
Monitor deductions being taken by customers
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in Accounting or Finance
Minimum of five years of credit-related experience
Strong Microsoft Office skills
Demonstrated knowledge of credit-related laws
