Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatrics position requiring a current CA RN license, BLS, PALS, and at least 3 years of pediatric experience.

Responsibilities

• Position is in the Pediatrics unit within an acute care hospital setting
• 35-bed unit with an average census of 8 patients; census varies seasonally
• Patient population includes children up to age 13, and older patients who are developmentally challenged
• Common cases include respiratory distress, appendectomy, dehydration, DKA, seizures, and general surgeries
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 on both day and night shifts
• Uses Cerner EMR; experience with Cerner preferred
• Night shifts, 12 hours each, with every other weekend required
• Floating required to PICU for low acuity and burn ICU for appropriate pediatric level of care
• No ventilator patients; telemonitoring is present but without a dedicated technician
• Patient care supported by in-house pediatric hospitalists, RT and pharmacy 24/7, and nurse aides based on census
• Required to wear navy scrubs
• Initial orientation includes four shifts: two in Pediatrics, one in PICU, and one in Burn
• Charge RN is available but does not take patients
• If census drops, may be placed on standby
• Required to cover two major holidays as scheduled
• Team includes 24-hour pediatric hospitalists and supportive ancillary staff
• No IV team present; nurses must perform their own IV insertions
• Medfusion pumps are used on the unit

Requirements

• Active CA RN license, no pending licenses accepted
• Minimum of 3 years of recent pediatric nursing experience required
• Current BLS and PALS certifications required
• Must possess strong clinical skills and be able to start IVs independently
• No first-time travelers will be considered for this role
• Must be able to provide two professional references: one supervisor from within the past 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
