Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Med/Surg-Nephrology position requiring an active IL RN license and BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute care hospital on a 21-bed Nephrology Medical Surgical unit
• Patient population includes ESRD, AKI, dialysis, transplant, urology, and general medicine overflow
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
• Shift is three 12-hour nights per week (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM) with every other weekend and holiday rotation
• No on-call requirements
• Floating may be required to general medicine units and occasionally as a sitter or to ED or ICUs as a helper
• Uses Epic EMR, prior Epic experience preferred but not required
• Overhead lift equipment in all rooms and bedside shift report required
• Perform bedside reports and frequent patient rounding
• Collaborate closely with PCTs who assist with vital signs, baths, activity, blood glucose checks, and foley care
• Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7, with charge nurse generally without a patient assignment
• BiPAP and CPAP used for sleep only; respiratory therapists available for support; nurses administer inhalers
• Telemetry monitored on another unit; nurses receive alerts for rhythm changes
• Scrubs may be any color; no artificial nails, gel nails, chipped polish, visible tattoos, or piercings
• Three-day unit-specific orientation with preceptor provided
• Self-scheduling available with flexibility to meet traveler needs
• No COVID-19 vaccine required
• Local candidates are accepted at a different rate if residing within 50 miles

Requirements

• Active IL RN license at time of consideration
• One year of RN experience required
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• General medical-surgical nursing background required
• Nephrology or urology experience preferred
• Must pass a drug screening for all panels
