This position is for a locum tenens Emergency Medicine Physician to provide clinical coverage in the inpatient Emergency Department of Ochsner American Legion Hospital in Jennings, LA. The role involves working 24-hour shifts treating adult and pediatric patients with a variety of emergency medical conditions, supported by specialty backup and EMR systems. Candidates must have an active Louisiana medical license, relevant board certifications, and at least two years of emergency medicine experience or equivalent training.
JOB OVERVIEW Job Title: Physician Emergency Medicine Job Type: Locum Tenens Location: Jennings, LA Service Setting: Inpatient Emergency Department Coverage Type: Clinical Only Coverage Period: ASAP June 2026 Clinical Shift Schedule: Physicians: 6a6p and 6p6a (24-hour single coverage), NP/PA: 10a10p daily PATIENT INFORMATION Patient Demographics: Adults and Pediatrics Patient Volume/Census: 38 patients/day ( 13,368 annually) % EMS: 17% Admissions: 11% Case Mix: General Emergency Medicine FACILITY INFORMATION Facility: Ochsner American Legion Hospital 5 ED beds Trauma Level: Level 3 EMR System: Ochsner EPIC Support Staff Available: NP/PA coverage (10a10p daily) Specialty Backup Available: OB/GYN, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, IM, Radiology, FP, Surgery (most transfers go to Lake Charles and Lafayette) Reason for Coverage: 3 Full-Time Physicians (45 shifts/month) PRIVILEGES & COMPLIANCE Hospital Privileges Required: Yes Credentialing Timeline: 3060 days with active LA license & clean file Temporary/Expedited Privileges: Yes with active LA license & clean file Compliance Requirements: Flu and other immunizations required Onboarding Requirements: EMR training and orientation JOB REQUIREMENTS Licenses: Active Louisiana Medical License & DEA Board: BC/BE in EM or BC/BE in IM/FM (with EM experience) Certifications: ACLS, ATLS, PALS required if not BCEM Experience: Minimum 2 years of Emergency Medicine experience required for non-EM trained Residency Training: EM, IM, or FM with Emergency Medicine experience
