American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Stepdown Care Unit position requiring an active IL license and ICU/intermediate nursing skills.
Responsibilities- Work in a 20-bed Stepdown Care Unit within an acute care setting
- Patient population includes COPD, CHF, diabetes, sepsis, renal, DKA, alcohol withdrawal, overdoses, pneumonia, respiratory, neuro, surgical, and cardiac patients
- Average nurse-to-patient ratio is 3:1
- Patients are monitored with Phillips bedside monitors; all patients are on telemetry
- 12-hour shifts are available with block scheduling as an option; every other weekend and every other holiday rotation is required
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Travel RNs are first to float and may be assigned to ICU, other stepdown, or general medical units based on experience
- Uses EPIC EMR; unit-specific orientation includes one day for EPIC, one day with the educator, and one day on the floor with an RN
- RNs are responsible for direct patient care, confirming telemetry strip interpretations, and titrating IV drips as required
- A free charge nurse is typically present, with house supervisor coverage 24/7
- Two patient care techs are scheduled per shift when the unit is full
- Scrub color is flexible; any color is acceptable
- Travel RNs work closely with the unit supervisor for scheduling needs
- COVID vaccination is not required
- Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a local rate
- Orientation includes one day each for EPIC training, department orientation, and on-unit preceptorship
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
- At least 1 year of recent ICU or intermediate (stepdown) RN experience with 2:1 or 3:1 ratios
- Current AHA BLS certification required; ACLS recommended
- Must have current experience with trach and ventilator patients
- Ability to titrate drips including Cardene, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Heparin, and low dose vasopressors
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Willingness to float as both assignment and patient load require
