The Breast Sonographer operates ultrasound equipment to perform diagnostic breast ultrasound exams and related procedures, providing patient care across all age groups. The role requires knowledge of anatomy, pathology, and effective communication with healthcare staff and radiologists. Candidates must have completed accredited sonography training, obtain registration within six months, and maintain BLS certification.
Responsibilities:
RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Operates ultrasound equipment to perform clinical diagnostic ultrasound exams and routine invasive procedures according to established standards and practices. Provides patient services utilizing ultrasound equipment. Demonstrates knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and pathology. Provides patient care to all age groups to include neonatal, pediatrics, adult, and geriatrics. Communicates effectively with staff and radiologists.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Graduate of an AMA approved Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or JRCERT accredited hospital-based training program, or equivalent experience according to Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC).
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
None.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Must become registered by the ARDMS within (6) months of employment. Vascular Sonographers must become registered and/or RVT, RVS, RT(S), RT(VS) within (6) months of employment. Licensure requirement for Breast Ultrasound can be met with registration through ARRT (BS).
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
BLS certified.
One (1) year of experience is preferred.
Registered ARDMS and/or RVS/RVT (Registered Vascular Specialist) is desired.
