Job Title: Registered Nurse – PACU

Shift: 12-Hour Day Shift (3 days/week)
Position Summary: The PACU Registered Nurse will provide post-anesthesia care for patients in a Level I trauma center setting. The role requires ICU experience and the ability to work independently while thinking critically. PACU and Pre-op experience are preferred, with an emphasis on monitoring post-operative patients and providing high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitor post-operative patients' recovery and levels of consciousness from anesthesia, providing updates to the medical team as needed.
Obtain, record, and monitor vital signs.
Observe for and respond to side effects of anesthesia medications.
Treat pain, nausea, and other post-operative symptoms, administering medications as prescribed.
Update electronic medical records (EMR) and maintain accurate patient documentation.
Educate patients and their families regarding post-surgery care and answer questions.
Participate in on-call rotations as required.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Licensure: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state/district of DC – Required
Experience:
Minimum 2 years ICU experience – Required
Recent PACU/Pre-op experience – Required
Experience in surgical centers is not applicable; must be accustomed to Level I trauma center complexity.
Education: Graduate of an accredited or NLN-approved RN program – Required
Certifications:
PALS, BLS, ACLS – Required
CPAN, TNCC, CCRN – Highly desirable
Degree: BSN – Highly desired
Must reside within 50 miles of the hospital.
