American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Progressive Care Unit position requiring a compact or NE license and expertise in stepdown care.
Responsibilities- Work in a 40-bed Progressive Care Unit (stepdown) within an acute hospital setting
- Care for adult patients with diagnoses including cardiac, med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, adult respiratory, stroke, post-stent, post-pacer, and renal failure
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5 on both days and nights
- Must be competent in managing arterial lines and titrating drips such as Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin
- RNs are required to interpret their own telemetry strips
- High flow equipment used; also overhead and portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners available
- Uses Epic EMR for charting
- Scheduled for 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage requires working at least two holidays during the contract
- Floating may be required to MedSurg or ICU units for PCU acuity patients
- This unit values flexibility, teamwork, and strong communication, serving diverse populations including Hispanic and Somalian communities
- Focus on patient experience, responsiveness, and clear communication about medications
- Charge nurse is present on every shift and nurse aides or patient care techs support at a 1:12 ratio
- One day of unit-specific orientation provided, with a pass/fail skills exam where a score of 90% is required
- Artificial nails are prohibited for all patient care providers
- Navy blue scrubs are required
- Maximum of 7 days requested time off per contract allowed; no additional RTO will be approved
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Active NE or Compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum of 2 years RN experience required
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Experience in managing arterial lines and titrating cardiac drips required
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
- Must provide a driver’s license for radius verification and live at least 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates must not have been employed in any capacity by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity for at least 12 months prior
- References required: one supervisor from the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years, with employment dates and rehire eligibility specified
