The Chief of Gastroenterology at AtlantiCare will lead and develop an academically focused GI division emphasizing clinical excellence, research, and education across multiple counties in New Jersey. Responsibilities include program development, team recruitment and mentorship, clinical leadership, and community engagement to enhance service accessibility and equity. The role requires extensive experience in gastroenterology, advanced clinical procedures, and proven leadership within an academic or clinical setting.

Position Overview:
AtlantiCare is seeking a highly qualified, visionary Physician to serve as Chief of Gastroenterology. This leadership role is integral to developing a high-impact, academically oriented GI division committed to excellence in clinical care, research, and education, aligned with AtlantiCare s Vision 2030 strategic goals. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence GI services across Atlantic, Ocean, and Cape May counties in New Jersey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Development & Leadership: Design, establish, and oversee a comprehensive GI program emphasizing innovation, research, and advanced clinical care in line with organizational objectives.
- Division Building: Create a dynamic, academically focused GI division that fosters clinical excellence, educational growth, and research collaboration.
- Service Expansion: Develop and expand advanced gastrointestinal services, including complex endoscopic procedures, inpatient and outpatient care, while ensuring high-quality, accessible services.
- Team Recruitment & Development: Recruit, mentor, and lead a multidisciplinary team comprising GI hospitalists, faculty, fellows, and support staff. Promote professional growth and a positive organizational culture.
- Clinical Leadership: Provide expert consultation and oversee complex GI cases, maintaining a hands-on approach to clinical management.
- Strategic Partnerships: Collaborate with key institutions such as Drexel University and The Cleveland Clinic to enhance research, education, and clinical initiatives, especially in cancer care.
- Operational Management: Ensure optimal endoscopic case volume, manage referral streams, and uphold quality standards.
- Community Engagement & Equity: Enhance access to GI services, reduce disparities, and engage with underserved populations through community outreach initiatives.
- Regulatory & Certification Compliance: Maintain required certifications including BLS, ACLS, DEA, and Controlled Substance Registration (CSR/CDS). Candidates with prior licensing or malpractice issues may be considered with limitations.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Physician MD/DO specializing in Gastroenterology.
- Proven leadership experience, such as program startup, medical director, or chief role.
- Extensive clinical experience with complex endoscopic procedures and advanced GI techniques.
- Eligibility for medical licensure in New Jersey.
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, DEA, and CSR/CDS required at start.
- Preference given to candidates with experience in academic medicine, program development, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Must be an experienced gastroenterologist; this role is not suitable for new graduates.
- Not open to APPs, 1099 contractors, locum tenens, or candidates requiring visa sponsorship.
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
