American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a surgical short stay/observation unit night shift with a SC or compact RN license required.
Responsibilities- Work in a six-bay 23-hour observation unit inside a surgery center PACU situated within a large clinic
- Night shift schedule: 3x12s, 6:00 PM - 6:30 AM Monday through Thursday with no Fridays, weekends, or holiday shifts
- Patient ratio: maximum 1:6, typically 1:3
- Patient population includes orthopedics (total joints, arthroscopy, hand, shoulder and elbow cases), interventional radiology, and GI procedures
- Collaboration with surgeons, anesthesia, and OR nurses in a fast-paced environment
- Staffing model typically consists of two RNs and one PCT, with occasional 1 RN/1 PCT coverage
- Possible floating to other observation units as needed and call-offs in cases of low census
- EPIC EMR is used on the unit; experience preferred
- Responsibilities include pre/postoperative care and close coordination with surgeons and interdisciplinary teams
- Building security present overnight with secure entry after clinic hours
- No trauma level requirements for this assignment
- Completion of pre-start modules (approximately 4 hours) required
- First-time travelers are accepted
- Locals within a 60-mile radius are considered on a case-by-case basis at a local rate
- All requested time off must be disclosed at time of application; time off during holidays is unlikely to be approved
- Previous staff including PRN must be separated from the health system for at least one year prior to consideration as a traveler
- During hurricane season (June-November), travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams as needed
- Active SC or compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA only)
- Experience with observation or surgical short stay units preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Submission of proof of application or eligibility for SC license if not already active
- Must provide Social Security Number and Driver’s License for consideration
