Director of Clinical PathologyLocation: Johnson City, NYBoard Certified or Board Eligible in Clinical PathologySchedule: 60% Diagnostic Work / 40% Administrative DutiesSalary Range: $400,800 - $421,800 annuallyPosition Overview:The Director of Clinical Pathology is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Clinical Laboratories Department. This role reports to the Medical Director and Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The position includes a mix of diagnostic work and leadership responsibilities to ensure quality, compliance, and efficiency across all clinical pathology services.Key Responsibilities: Oversee the laboratory s quality management system in alignment with Clinical Laboratory Practice Standards Provide relevant continuing education to laboratory staff Establish policies to monitor staff competency; ensure appropriate training or remediation when needed Define technical and administrative responsibilities for all lab personnel; conduct and document annual competency assessments Maintain a safe working environment for staff and the public Ensure the availability and accuracy of the approved procedure manual Monitor all laboratory work to ensure medically reliable data Evaluate and improve quality and appropriateness of lab services across all testing locations Consult with referring physicians regarding test interpretation and ensure reports include necessary clinical context Oversee proficiency testing participation and ensure alternative accuracy checks for tests lacking state assessments Implement corrective action plans in response to identified deficiencies Participate in institutional and interdepartmental committees in the absence of department leadershipSupervisory Responsibilities: Direct oversight of medical technologists, technicians, and support staff within the department Supervise all lab personnel during interim periods, including technical and non-technical staff Report personnel-related issues to appropriate departmental leadershipQualifications: Licensed physician in the State of New York Board certified or board eligible in Clinical Pathology Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) required Demonstrated leadership ability and strategic vision Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on service, accuracy, and responsiveness Experience managing a large, multi-site pathology department preferred Familiarity with healthcare policy, medical reimbursement, and institutional dynamicsPreferred Experience: General laboratory experience
