American Traveler seeks an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute position in Illinois, requiring trauma experience and active IL state licensure.
Responsibilities- Work on a 54-bed Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit in an acute care hospital setting
- Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and neuroscience cases, with some medical overflow
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-6 at night
- Night shifts consist of three 12-hour shifts, 1900-0700, with every other weekend and holiday rotation required
- RNs titrate heparin drips based on PTT, and prior heparin gtt experience is required
- Charge nurse and house supervisor are present 24/7
- Support provided by nurse aides and patient care techs
- Floating required in rotation with staff, with additional support when floated outside the home unit
- Epic charting system is used
- Main responsibilities include caring for neurological and medical overflow patients, titrating drips, and collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team
- Unit uses Phillips telemetry monitors, but nurses are not responsible for reading strips
- RNs may work with high flow oxygen for stable COVID patients, though this is rare on the unit
- Dress code requires tattoos to be covered and no visible piercings except ears; no specific scrub color required
- Two days of orientation provided with educator and preceptor
- No call or standby requirements
- Holiday and every other weekend coverage is expected
- Local candidates are accepted, with local rates applied if residing within 50 miles
- Active, unencumbered IL RN license required at time of consideration
- BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum of 1 year of RN experience, including prior experience on a dedicated neuro unit
- Level 1 trauma experience required
- Must have previous travel nursing experience; first-time travelers will not be considered
- Experience titrating heparin drips required
- Ability to complete physical demands of neuro med-surg nursing
