The Oncology Nurse Practitioner provides advanced clinical care including pre- and post-operative assessments, inpatient rounds, and outpatient cancer surveillance. They collaborate with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams to develop treatment plans, assist in surgeries, and educate patients. The role requires maintaining compliance and documentation within medical records and facilitating communication among healthcare providers and patients.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Care:
- Conduct pre-operative assessments and post-operative follow-ups.
- Perform daily inpatient rounds, write orders, and manage discharge planning.
- Assist in outpatient clinics for cancer surveillance and follow-up.
- First assist in surgical procedures.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests and imaging.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with surgeons.
- Provide patient education regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and recovery.
Coordination & Communication:
- Act as a liaison between patients, families, nursing staff, and physicians.
- Facilitate referrals to other specialties and community resources.
- Participate in tumor boards and multidisciplinary care meetings.
Documentation & Compliance:
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record, Epic.
- Ensure compliance with institutional policies and regulatory standards.
- Master s degree in Nursing (NP) or Physician Assistant Studies
- Current Indiana state licensure as NP or PA
- Certification in surgical or oncology specialty preferred (e.g., AOCNP)
- BLS/ACLS certification
- DEA license
- Minimum 2 3 years of experience in oncology or surgical care preferred
- Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Familiarity with Epic and clinical documentation standards.
