American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute night shift position requiring an active IL license and prior travel and neuro unit experience.
Responsibilities- Work in a 54-bed Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit within an acute care setting
- Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and neuroscience cases with some medical overflow
- Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
- Required to work 12-hour night shifts (1900-0700) with every other weekend and holiday rotation
- Uses Epic EMR system
- Heparin titrated drips based on PTT are administered; experience required
- Charge nurse and house supervisor 24/7; charge nurse does not take assignment unless needed
- Floating required within general unit and, if floated outside, assignments match skill set and support is provided by a unit-trained nurse
- No scrub color requirement; all tattoos must be covered, piercings limited to ears
- Unit orientation consists of 2 days, including computer and unit-specific training with educator and preceptor
- Patient care supported by nurse aides/patient care techs with ratios of 1:9-12 depending on shift
- Holiday rotations are required for every other holiday
- No call or standby requirements
- House-wide telemetry monitoring with Phillips monitors; nurses are not required to read their own strips
- High-flow oxygen is used for stable COVID patients only and is rare in this unit
- Local candidates within 50 miles are eligible at a local rate
- COVID vaccination is not required
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
- Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience in an acute care setting
- Level 1 trauma and dedicated neuro unit experience required
- Previous travel assignment experience required (no first-time travelers considered)
- Must have experience with heparin gtt drips
- Epic EMR experience strongly preferred
- Must pass a drug screen
