Job Title: Behavioral Health Therapist
Job Summary:
The Behavioral Health Therapist provides therapeutic services to individuals, families, or groups dealing with mental health issues, emotional disorders, substance abuse, and behavioral problems. The therapist assesses patients’ needs, develops treatment plans, and delivers evidence-based interventions to support recovery, resilience, and improved quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct clinical assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and psychosocial assessments.
Develop individualized treatment plans based on client needs and clinical judgment.
Provide individual, group, and/or family therapy using evidence-based therapeutic modalities (e.g., CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing).
Collaborate with psychiatrists, primary care providers, case managers, and other professionals to ensure holistic care.
Monitor client progress, modify treatment plans, and maintain accurate documentation in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
Educate clients and families on coping strategies, mental health conditions, and community resources.
Participate in crisis intervention and emergency response as needed.
Attend case reviews, staff meetings, and continuing education/training programs.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA, ethical codes, and relevant regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field.
Clinical experience in mental health, behavioral health, or substance abuse treatment settings.
Strong understanding of therapeutic techniques and diagnostic tools (DSM-5).
Skills:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to build trust and rapport with diverse populations.
Strong organizational and documentation abilities.
Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR).
Licensing and Certification Requirements:
Most U.S. states require Behavioral Health Therapists to be licensed. Licensing titles and requirements vary but generally fall into the following categories:
