American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute position on night shift with required IL licensure and trauma experience.
Responsibilities- Position is in an acute care hospital setting on the Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit
- 54-bed unit with nurse to patient ratios of 1:4-5 days and 1:5-6 nights
- Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neuroscience cases, with some medical overflow
- Care involves titrating heparin drips and working with neuro-specific cases
- Uses Epic EMR system
- Night shifts consist of three 12-hour shifts, 1900-0700, with every other weekend and holiday required
- Floating required between general units with assignment based on competency and support from unit-trained nurse if floated outside general area
- House-wide telemetry with Phillips monitors; nurses are not required to interpret strips
- Charge nurse and house supervisor on duty 24/7, with charge nurse not taking assignments unless necessary for safe ratios
- Support staff includes nurse aids and patient care techs with standard ratios provided
- No COVID vaccination required
- No specific scrub color required; tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings allowed while on duty
- Two-day orientation provided that includes computer and unit-specific training
- Every other weekend and holiday coverage is expected
- Applicants with a permanent address within 50 miles are eligible at local rates
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum of 1 year of RN experience
- Previous travel nurse experience required
- Experience on a dedicated neuro unit required
- Level 1 trauma experience is mandatory
- Valid BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required upon consideration
- Must have experience with titrating heparin drips
- Epic EMR experience preferred
