American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position in an acute care setting, requiring at least 1 year of experience and intermediate EFM skills.
Responsibilities- Work in a small Labor & Delivery unit with 2 L&D rooms at a Critical Access Hospital (CAH)
- Typical patient volume is 50-60 births annually
- Patient ratio is typically 1:1, occasionally 1:2, often only one OB nurse per shift
- Care for antepartum, laboring, postpartum, and newborn patients with common cases including diabetes, gestational diabetes, advanced maternal age, and no known high-risk cases
- C-sections performed in main OR with PACU recovering; OB nurses care only for the baby during these cases
- Shifts are 12 hours, with day and night schedules (6a-6:30p, 6p-6:30a) and schedules typically blocked and set four weeks at a time
- Weekend shifts required every other weekend; holiday coverage as needed
- Possible floating to Acute MedSurg if there are no OB patients
- Uses Cerner EMR and Fetal Link EFM system
- No nurse aides or surgical tech support on this unit
- Provide comprehensive care for women during labor, delivery, and post-partum periods, including fetal monitoring and managing titratable drips
- RNs are responsible for monitoring patients on magnesium without monitor tech support
- All OBs are Family Practice physicians, in-clinic during the day and available within 20 minutes after hours
- Anesthesia is on call and not in-house around the clock
- Respiratory support is limited to nasal cannula and non-rebreather; no RT in-house
- Initial one-day unit orientation provided
- No specific scrub color required; clean and professional attire expected
- Charge nurse covers the entire hospital, not unit-specific
- Active WA or Compact RN license required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and intermediate or advanced C-EFM
- At least 1 year of RN experience in Labor & Delivery, antepartum, and postpartum settings
- Proficient in titrating drips such as insulin and magnesium
- Must be able to work on the Acute MedSurg floor as needed
