This locum tenens psychiatry role in Durham, NC involves supervising APPs and residents while managing an inpatient caseload of 16-18 patients on a 12-hour shift schedule. The psychiatrist will provide care primarily for adults, participate in team rounds, handle emergency consults, and manage involuntary commitment procedures. Board certification, active NC medical license, and experience in a behavioral health/inpatient setting are required for this 6-month ongoing contract position.
A behavioral health facility near Durham, NC is seeking a Board-Certified/Board-Eligible Psychiatrist. This inpatient role includes supervising APPs and residents while managing a caseload of 16-18 patients per day. Location: Near Durham, NCContract Length: 6 months, ongoingSchedule: 7 days on/7 days off, 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM 7:00 PM)Practice Setting: Inpatient Psychiatry (80-bed crisis stabilization unit) Job Responsibilities & Coverage Procedures: Supervision: Oversee APPs treating children (ages 5+), although the physician will primarily handle adult patients. Must be comfortable providing guidance on child/adolescent cases.Team Support: Work with MDs, APPs, Residents, RNs, MHTs, CSWs, and RTs to manage patient care.Daily Coverage & Workflow: Participate in morning rounds and bed progression meetings to discuss patient status. Weekdays: Work alongside 2 MDs, 2 APPs, and Residents in the Adult Unit. Weekends: Coverage is 1 MD, 2 APPs, and 1 Resident in the Adult Unit. Use Epic EMR for documentation and sign-offs. Consults & Emergency Coverage: Review consult lists and oversee behavioral health urgent care needs. Provide support for ED psychiatry coverage via phone on weekends (8 AM 8 PM). Involuntary Commitment (IVC) Procedures: Complete 2nd exam within 24 hours for IVC admissions. Handle necessary rescind IVC paperwork for discharges. Assist in IVC petition processing as needed for voluntary patients who require IVC admission. Job Requirements: Board Certification (BC/Truly BE) in PsychiatryActive North Carolina Medical License, CSR, and DEAMinimum 1 year of experienceMust be comfortable supervising APPs and residentsCredentialing Timeline: 60-90 days This is an excellent opportunity to work in a collaborative academic environment, providing high-quality patient care while mentoring medical students and residents.
