Medical Surgical RN Job Details

• Start Date: January 19, 2026
• End Date: April 20, 2026
• Duration: 13 weeks
• Shift: 3x12-hour night shifts (18:45 – 07:15)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Charting System: Cerner EMR
• Scrub Color: Any solid color
• Parking: Free with permit

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent Medical Surgical RN experience in acute care settings
• Active Illinois RN license (or in application process)
• BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross)
• Experience with Cerner charting preferred
• IV therapy and phlebotomy skills: blood product administration, peripheral line care, PICC line management
• Knowledge of isolation precautions and infection control
• Willingness to float within scope to meet facility needs
• Ability to work 2 out of 3 major holidays if assignment spans holiday period
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)

Medical Surgical RN Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with diagnoses such as GI bleed, bowel obstruction, colon cancer, bowel resection, diverticulitis, cholecystitis, alcohol withdrawal, appendicitis, and pancreatitis
• Administer medications and treatments including TPN, tube feedings, heparin drip, amiodarone, and Lasix
• Perform IV therapy, blood product administration, and manage peripheral and PICC lines
• Implement and monitor isolation precautions and infection control protocols
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams: physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, rapid response teams
• Float to other units or affiliate hospitals as needed
• Document patient care accurately using Cerner EMR
• Participate in orientation and ongoing clinical training
