A Nephrology Physician provides specialized kidney care including dialysis, acute kidney injury, and chronic kidney disease management, with responsibilities for inpatient rounds, consultations, and admissions. The role requires board certification in Internal Medicine and Nephrology, active licensure, and experience with procedures such as CRRT, hemodialysis, and peritoneal dialysis. The position involves working closely with advanced practice providers and other specialties in a hospital setting with a focus on high acuity adult patients.
Schedule:
- M-F: 7a-5p
- Weeknight Call: 5p-7a
- 24hr Weekend call: 7a-7a
- Active PA State License or Licensure
- DEA Required: Yes
- Board Status: Board Certified Internal Medicine & Nephrology
- Required Certifications: BLS
- Minimum Years Experience (if applicable): 1
- Typical Day: Round with APP on inpatient census
- Avg Consults per day: 3
- New Consultations are generally split among the rounders and APP.
- Avg Admissions per day: 5-6
- Avg admissions while on call: 5-6
- APP/Mid-Level Coverage Avail: Yes, 8a-4p
- Procedures: CRRT, HD, PD but do not place lines or biopsies alone.
- Other specialties on-site: Medicine, surgical, oncology
- Typical Cases seen: Dialysis, aki, CKD, Onco-Nephrology cases at Shadyside
- High acuity, but no trauma
- 5-10 ICU patients on average; Census continues to go up, on average is most tracks in the 30s and is usually split between 2 physicians but not always.
- Adult 100%
- EMR: Cerner
- First Day Instructions: Parking- available at hospital parking lot, can wear scrubs or lab coat, can arrange for candidate to meet with Shadyside team upon arrival to review call list, etc.
- Orientation: Approximately 2 hours and will be same day orientation AM
