The 2026 Student Nurse Internship Program at Carle Foundation Hospital is a summer internship designed for nursing students who have completed at least one semester of nursing school and clinicals. Interns support registered nurses by assisting with patient care activities, unit maintenance, and data collection under supervision. The program offers hands-on experience, skill competency development, and exposure to hospital operations within a comprehensive healthcare system.
Overview
Summer Nurse Internship will run from May 18, 2026 through July 18, 2026 (Dates may vary if current Carle employee).
Eligible Nursing Students are those who have completed one semester of a nursing program including nursing clinicals.

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Nursing Intern functions as a support to the licensed nursing staff and performs activities related to the personal care and hygiene needs of an assigned patient group. Facilitates communication with other departments, visitors, patients, medical staff and employees. Serves as a public relations liaison for the unit.
Qualifications
Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)American Heart Association (AHA)
Education:
- H.S. Diploma/GED
- Must be currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program AND have successfully completed at least one semester of nursing school AND successfully completed at least one semester of nursing clinicals, prior to starting Internship.

Responsibilities
Assists with the maintenance of unit supplies to ensure the smooth function of the unit, including stocking nurse servers, cleaning instruments and equipment, ordering supplies, and making up charts. Collects data on assigned patients as directed by Registered Nurse (RN) and ensures accurate documentation. Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills as outlined in the skills checklist including: measurement of vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, and measuring and recording intake and output. Performs or assists patients with the activities of daily living. Prepares patients for transportation and/or transport. Demonstrates competency in skills outlined in competency modules including measurement of vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, and measuring and recording intake and output. Performs or assists patients with activities of daily living. As directed by the registered nurse, collects and documents data accurately and timely. Stock nurse servers, order supplies, and other tasks associated with unit maintenance and day to day operation. Completes all mandatory training and competency modules.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $17.89 per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
