Neuro ICU Registered Nurse (Travel) – Sharp HealthCare
Key Job Responsibilities
- Provide advanced, safe, and therapeutic nursing care to critically ill neurological patients in the Neuro ICU
- Perform comprehensive neurological and systemic assessments; identify subtle changes in patient condition
- Implement and evaluate individualized plans of care using the nursing process for high-acuity patients
- Manage complex neurological conditions including stroke, traumatic brain injury, intracranial hemorrhage, post-op neuro cases, and altered mental status
- Collaborate with intensivists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, and interdisciplinary teams in high-risk clinical situations
- Serve as patient and family advocate while maintaining strict compliance with ICU standards and protocols
- Coordinate care, delegate appropriately, and ensure continuity through accurate, timely documentation
Core Skills & Competencies
- Neuro assessments (NIHSS), frequent neuro checks, and early recognition of deterioration
- ICU-level hemodynamic monitoring and critical care interventions
- Management of ventilated patients, drips, and invasive lines as applicable
- Development, implementation, and reassessment of individualized plans of care (IPOC/IPER)
- Patient and family education adapted to critical illness and neurological conditions
- Clear communication with interdisciplinary teams to support patient safety and outcomes
Licensure & Certifications
- Active California RN License
- BLS/CPR
- ACLS
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Education & Experience
- BSN or ADN required
- Minimum 3 years recent RN experience
- Minimum 2 years recent Neuro ICU or ICU experience
