American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry Observation Unit position requiring recent acute care experience and ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Responsibilities- Work in a 16-bed Observation/Telemetry unit within an acute care hospital
- Patient population includes chest pain, post heart cath, stable pre-CABG, and post-procedure patients
- No vents, bipap, or cpap used on the unit
- Cerner EMR is used; Cerner experience preferred
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts, with every 3rd weekend required
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays on a rotation with core staff
- Floating is required to any tele/med-surg floor, including the possibility to float to a sister facility
- Charge nurse present 24/7; patient care techs staffed per census
- No IV team; hospitalist covers call
- Care for patients following observation protocols, including cardiac monitoring and post-procedural care
- Expected to float first among staff when floating is needed
- Must wear navy scrubs
- 24/7 access to respiratory therapy and pharmacy services
- No patients with alcohol withdrawal unless beyond three days
- First time travelers will be considered
- Candidates who do not pass required exams after two attempts will be ineligible for future positions with the organization for six months (with some regional exceptions)
- Orientation includes two days of floor-specific training
- Must pass both a dysrhythmia exam and simulated lab to begin assignment
- Active RN license (state or compact) required at the time of consideration
- Minimum of 2 years of recent acute care RN experience within the past 6 months
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within 24-48 hours of offer (maximum 2 attempts)
- Must pass a simulated skills lab on day 1 of orientation
- Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility, verified with a current driver’s license
- Must provide a copy of a current driver’s license for consideration
- May not have worked at a facility affiliated with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity in a staff role within the past 12 months
- Two professional references required: one supervisor reference from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from the last 3 years with employment dates and rehire eligibility
