Unit: 12 East & West Surgical Oncology (12 James)
Shift Options:
Days: 3x12 (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Nights: 3x12 (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Schedule: Self-Scheduling (no block schedules)
Patient Ratios:
Goal 1:4, may go 1:5 based on acuity
Float: Yes – to other acute care oncology units
Orientation: 72 hours
Locals Accepted: Yes (same rate)
? RECENT PCU EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Mixed-acuity unit caring for PCU & Med-Surg patients
Strong surgical PCU background required
Minimum 2 years RN experience
BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required
Epic charting experience required
Oncology experience preferred, not required
Compact or Ohio RN license required at submission
Busy Surgical Oncology PCU in a new tower opening
All permanent staff are PCU-trained
Adult & geriatric patient population
Heavy focus on infection prevention & fall safety
No set weekend pattern; weekends vary by unit needs
Surgical Oncology: Breast, thyroid, melanoma
Hepatobiliary: Liver, pancreas, biliary tract, neuroendocrine tumors
Colorectal: Colon & rectal cancer
Plastics: Reconstructive breast & sarcoma surgery
Orthopedic & cardiothoracic surgical patients
Cardiac telemetry & dysrhythmia interpretation
PCU-level patient monitoring
Chest tube care (Emerson / Pleur-Evac)
IV antibiotics & blood transfusions
Chemotherapy exposure
Insulin & heparin drips
Management of oncologic emergencies
Cytokine release syndrome
CPAP/BiPAP & tracheostomy care
Preferred
ONS Chemotherapy certification
Charting: Epic
Client/B450 telemetry system
Alaris pumps, bladder scanners, Stryker beds
⚠️ Ohio fingerprinting is URGENT and mandatory
Must be completed immediately after contract signing
Strict compliance deadline: Tuesday prior to start date
RTO must be disclosed at submission
2 professional references required (1 manager/director)
Former OSU employees eligible after 6 months
Current OSU employees not eligible for travel roles
