Job Details: Position: Locum Tenens Emergency Medicine Physician Location: Near Cooper Landing, AK Duration: Starting March 2025, ongoing Schedule: 7-10 days per month Shift Hours: 12-hour shifts (8 a.m. to 8 p.m. or 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.) On-Call Requirements: 12-hour backup call before day shifts and after night shifts; infrequent call-backs Practice Setting: Single provider coverage for both the emergency department and hospital patients Patient Load: Average 8 patients per shift in a 6-bed department Requirements: Board Certification: Must be board eligible or board certified in Emergency Medicine or Family Medicine (due to rural practice scope) Certifications: ACLS, ATLS, and PALS required Alaska License: Must have an active Alaska state medical license Experience: Ability to handle emergency medicine in a rural setting without outpatient clinic duties Additional Information: No Obstetrics or Labor & Delivery Department: However, physicians must be prepared for emergency obstetric cases that may arise in the ER. Support Staff: Includes 2 RNs and 1 MA per shift; no supervision of residents or advanced practice providers. Facilities: Small, critical access hospital without trauma or surgical backup beyond general surgery and orthopedic surgery. Perks: Housing: Hospital provides apartments for physicians during scheduled shifts.
